The Summer of 2014 was a victory lap for the "Summer Encore" series of Trop Rock concerts. This year, the "da Pyrates" attended many house concerts, enjoying the music of several different Trop, and Americana musicians, in preparation for the big season finally. It took place, as scheduled, at 3:00 PM/ET, October 4th, and was a huge success. As planned, San Diego's Charlie Imes came to Sanitaria Springs and performed at the "Piping Parrot House Concerts" venue. We planned for 24 attendees, and had a total of 22. We now know that the "PP" will hold more than that, so next year if it's held in the same place, we'll shoot for an audience of 30.
The intimate setting of the "PP" was the near perfect room for a house concert. The 8' ceilings, and the generous size of the room, made it possible, even desirable, for Charlie to play his guitar and sing without PA or microphone. This lack of equipment, and the closeness of the singer/songwriter/storyteller, made the experience exciting and very personal for every attendee.
2015 will see the "PP" hosting another couple of house concerts. The venue may not be our home, for both shows. That will be decided by the size of the audience, as well as the size of the performing act.
Right now, we're planning on a Summer show in late May or June, and another "Summer Encore" in late September or early October.
At least one 2015 house concert is scheduled to be at the De Backer's home. The De Backers are partners with the "da Pyrates" in musical presentations every year, and that partnership will continue in 2015.
The Shore Radio, www.wnyshoreradiio.com, is also scheduled to continue it's partnership with the "Summer Encore" series.
We hope that we can attract some commercial sponsorship in 2015 and build the "Summer Encore" summer ending show into a multiple artist event. Anyone who wants to help or sponsor the "Summer Encore" shows, should contact Don Winfield, at dondapyrate@gmail.com.
